Brady Henderson of ESPN reports that the Seahawks are signing LB Pita Taumoepenu to a contract on Sunday.
The Seahawks confirmed the signing of Taumoepenu and announced that they’ve placed DE Branden Jackson on injured reserve.
Jackson, 27, originally signed on with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech back in May of 2016 but was cut loose coming out of the preseason and signed him to their practice squad.
The Raiders eventually promoted him to their active roster but, once again, had him among their final roster cuts the following preseason. Seattle signed him to their practice squad in September of 2017 and he’s been on and off of their roster ever since.
In 2019, Jackson appeared in 15 games and recorded 20 total tackles and two sacks. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 101 overall edge defender out of 107 qualifying players.
Taumoepenu, 26, is a former sixth-round pick of the 49ers back in 2017. He agreed to a four-year, $2.5 million contract, but was waived coming out of the preseason in 2018.
The 49ers re-signed him to their practice squad before promoting him towards the end of the season. However, he was cut loose last year and claimed off of waivers by the Cardinals.
Taumoepenu joined the Seahawks during the season last year and returned to Seattle on a futures contract. However, he was waived after the draft this past May.
In 2018, Taumoepenu appeared in four games for the 49ers and recorded three tackles and no sacks.
