Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, citing a team source, reports that contract talks between the Steelers and QB Ben Roethlisberger are in the “preliminary stages” and both parties are working towards a deal at the Combine that could be done soon.
Dulac says that Roethlisberger’s next contract could run through the 2022 season.
Steelers GM Kevin Colbert said recently that he’s “pretty positive” they’ll get Roethlisberger taken care of this offseason.
“I’m pretty positive that will happen sooner rather than later,” Colbert said.
Roethlisberger, 36, is in the second year of his five-year, $99 million contract that includes $64 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $12 million over the final two years of the agreement.
In 2018, Roethlisberger appeared in 16 games for the Steelers and completed 67 percent of his passes for 5,129 yards, 34 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.
