Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Steelers and QB Ben Roethlisberger are closing in a contract extension that will make him one of the highest-paid players in the NFL. Rapoport says an agreement could be announced as soon as today.
According to Gerry Dulac, the two parties are finalizing a three-year deal.
Pittsburgh has maintained that they planned to get a new extension in place with Roethlisberger this offseason and one report from last month said it was expected to be done soon.
Once the deal is official, the expectation has been that he’ll be in the range of the $30 million per year Kirk Cousins is making with the Vikings.
Roethlisberger, 36, is in the second year of his five-year, $99 million contract that includes $64 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $12 million over the final two years of the agreement.
In 2018, Roethlisberger appeared in 16 games for the Steelers and completed 67 percent of his passes for 5,129 yards, 34 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.
We’ll have more regarding the Steelers and Roethlisberger as the news is available.
