Steelers Looking To Add A True Featured RB This Offseason

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writes that the Steelers will have to decide between re-signing Rashard Mendenhall or find a true featured back at some point during the offseason.

Bouchette adds that Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman are both “complementary backs” rather than true featured running backs.

It’s also worth noting that both Dwyer and Redman will be restricted free agents in the coming months, so they can be brought back for a reasonable sum of money.

The once dominant Steeler’s running game became one of the team’s weak spots this season as they ended the year ranked 26th in the league in total rushing yards, their worst since 2003.

Baron Batch who is in currently mending a broken forearm, but is currently the only running back on their roster, so it makes sense that Pittsburgh would consider all of their available options. Drafting a running back at this point probably makes more sense given that this year’s group of free agents isn’t all that great.

For what it’s worth, we have Mendenhall listed as the No. 69 best available player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
