The Pittsburgh Steelers officially placed OT Jerald Hawkins and TE Jake McGee on injured reserve Monday and signed OT Bryce Harris and TE Ryan Malleck to contracts.
Hawkins sustained aย torn quad during last week’s practice and was expected to be placed on injured reserve, so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise.
As for McGee, he reportedlyย suffered a torn Achilles last week.
Hawkins, 24, is a former fourth-round pick out of LSU by the Steelers in the 2016 NFL Draft. He is entering the second year of a four-year, $2.87 million rookie contract and is set to earn a base salary of $630,000 this season.
This marks the second time Hawkins has been placed on injured reserve after sustaining a shoulder injury his rookie year.
In 2017, Hawkins appeared in five games for the Steelers and appeared in 48 total snaps.
McGee, 26, signed on with the Panthers as an undrafted free agent out of Florida back in 2016. Unfortunately, he lasted just a few weeks in Carolina after he was waived from injured reserve with a settlement.
McGee had a brief stint with the Chargers before he was waived following last year’s draft. The Steelers later signed McGee during the preseason and later added him to their practice squad before bringing him back on a futures contract this past January.
During his college career between Virginia and Florida, McGee recorded 112 receptions for 1,150 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns.
