According to Jordan Schultz, the Steelers are releasing FB Roosevelt Nix on Wednesday.
This comes after Pittsburgh signed FB Derek Watt to a two-year deal, so this doesn’t come as a surprise.
Nix, 27, originally signed on with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent out of Kent State back in 2014. He was unable to make the 53-man roster and sat out the entire 2014 season before signing a future/reserve contract with the Steelers in January of 2015.
The Steelers elected to sign him to a one-year exclusive rights deals in 2016 and 2017. He signed a four-year, $6.975 million extension after making the Pro Bowl in 2017.
According to OverTheCap.com, cutting Nix creates $1,012,500 in cap space and $875,000 in dead money.
In 2019, Nix has appeared in three games for the Steelers and caught two passes for four yards receiving.
