NFL Networks Michael Lombardi reports that the Carolina Panthers will not trade WR Steve Smith as he has told them that he would like to retire with the Panthers.
Earlier reports had suggested that Smith wanted out of town and that the Chargers and Ravens were his preferred destinations.
Carolina has been extremely aggressive in this years free agent market but that has mainly been to retain their big name free agents like DeAngelo Williams, Charles Johnson and James Anderson but they have stopped there.
The Panthers will now have a young nucleus to build upon and a rookie quarterback in Cam Newton so retaining Smith would defiantly help their offense.
