Mike Vandermause of the Green Bay Press-Gazette writes that the Packers are unlikely to use their franchise tag onย WRย Greg Jennings.
Thisย really isn’t all that shocking given that there hasn’t been any indication from the Packers that he’s a part of their long-term plans.
Vandermause adds thatย Green Bay has made no recent attempts to offer Jenningsย a new contract and expects them to use the money that they’ll save from allowing Jennings to leave and recently parting ways with Sย Charles Woodsonย to address the contracts ofย Aaron Rodgers,ย Clay Matthews, andย B.J. Raji.
Jennings, 29, has been tossed out as a speculative option for a number teams. We’ve heard the Dolphins, Vikings, Colts and Rams all brought up at different times. It appears as though Jennings is looking to maximize is current situation, but it will be interesting to see what kind of market develops for Jennings seeing as he’s entering hisย thirties and has dealt with some injuries in the past few seasons.
The Packers may now look to 23 year old Jarrett Boykin as their No. 4 receiver next season, or possibly target someone in the draft. Green Bay has hadย phenomenalย success drafting receivers in the second-round. Jennings, Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb were all second-round selections.
We have Jennings listed as the No. 10 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agentsย list.
