Teams Have Contacted Jaguars About Potential Nick Foles Trade

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the teams have contacted the Jaguars about a potential trade for QB Nick Foles. However, sources familiar with the Jaguarsโ€™ thinking have made it clear to Garafolo that they are not shopping him in trade talks.

Garafolo explains that itโ€™s at least a possibility that Foles could be on the move this offseason, as teams are aware of whatโ€™s happening with the team and the fact that Foles will be asked to compete for the job with Gardner Minshew this summer.

Should a team offer the right kind of compensation for Foles, Garafolo believes itโ€™s a โ€œstrong possibilityโ€ that he could be traded in the coming weeks.

On Tuesday, the Jaguars agreed to trade CB A.J. Bouye to the Broncos for a fourth-round pick. A report later mentioned that other Jaguars players including DL Calais Campbell, C Brandon Linder and G Andrew Norwell are also drawing trade interest (NFLTR), so all eyes figure to be on Jacksonville for a potential trades this offseason.

Earlier in the week, ESPNโ€™s Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler reported that the Jaguars want to move forward with Minshew as their starter next season and would like to find a trade partner for Foles.

The reporters wondered if a reunion with Colts HC Frank Reich, who was Folesโ€™ offensive coordinator with the Eagles, could be a possibility for Foles.

Jacksonville brought Foles in to be their starter last year. However, a broken left clavicle during his debut in Week 1 and was placed on injured reserve. Minshew stepped in and performed well in Folesโ€™ absence.

The Jaguars gave Foles another shot later on in the year, but still finished out the season with Minshew as their starter.

Foles, 31, is a former third-round pick of the Eagles back in 2012. Philadelphia traded Foles to the Rams back in 2015 in a deal for QB Sam Bradford and he later signed an extension with the team.

Foles lasted just over a year with the Rams before he was released and later signed on with the Chiefs. After a year in Kansas City, Foles agreed to a two-year, $11 million contract with the Eagles.

From there, Foles signed a four-year, $88 million contract with the Jaguars that included $50.125 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $15,125,000 for the 2020 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Foles would free up $3,087,500 of available cap space while creating $18,750,000 in dead money.

In 2019, Foles appeared in four games for the Jaguars and completed 65.8 percent of his passes for 736 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Weโ€™ll have more regarding Foles as the news is available.
