According to Jason La Canfora, Chiefs free agent DE/OLB Terrell Suggs is still weighing his options and it’s “far from a foregone conclusion” he retires from the NFL.
La Canfora mentions that Suggs could consider pursuing a one-year contract with the right team.
Suggs spoke with SI’s Albert Breer following the team’s Super Bowl win and indicated that the door could still be open to returning for another year.
โI donโt know, coming off that Super Bowl high, itโs easy to say it, Letโs do it again. But itโs difficult to repeat. I donโt know,” Suggs told Breer about his future in the league. “Iโm thinking Iโll make next yearโs decision when itโs time to make it. The season just ended, so Iโm trying not to think about it, Iโm trying to rush into making a decision.โ
Suggs, 37, is a former first-round pick of the Ravens back in 2003. He played out the final year of his five-year, $28.5 million contract that included $16 million guaranteed and made a base salary of $6.5 million for the 2018 season.
The Cardinals later signed Suggs to a one-year, $7 million contract last March before waiving him on Thursday. The Chiefs claimed him off of waivers and he finished out the year in Kansas City.
Suggs is once again an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
In 2019, Suggs has appeared in 15 games for the Cardinals and Chiefs and recorded 40 tackles, 6.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and a recovery. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 78 edge rusher out of 108 qualifying players.
