Texans Activate LB Brennan Scarlett From I.R. & Waive CB Al-Hajj Shabazz

According to Mark Berman, the Texans have activated LB Brennan Scarlett from their injured reserve and waived CBย Al-Hajj Shabazz in a corresponding roster move.

It was reported earlier this week that the Texans were expected to activate Scarlett, so this move was expected.

Scarlett, 23, wound up signing a three-year, $1.62 million contract with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Stanford back in May. He managed to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason but was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury back in October.

In 2016, Scarlett has appeared in five games for the Texans and recorded five tackles and no sacks.

Shabazz, 24, originally signed on with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of West Chester in July of last year but was waived as the team trimmed their roster down to 75 players.

The Steelers signed him to a future/reserve contract in Februaryย but was waived as the team got down to the 53-man limit. He was signed to the teamโ€™s practice squad after clearing waivers.

Shabazz has been on and off of the Steelersโ€™ active roster but was cut loose to make room for K Randy Bullock.ย The Texans decided to grab him off waivers from Pittsburgh in recent weeks, making his stay in Houston short-lived.

In 2016, Shabazz appeared in six games and recorded just one tackle.
