Bears & Texans Interested In G Larry Warford

Update:

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Bears are also among the teams that have expressed interest in free agent G Larry Warford.

Biggs says it remains to be seen what kind of market will develop for Warford, but won’t be surprising to see him do well for himself, considering that he’s by far the best available offensive lineman at this point.

The Bears signed veteran G Josh Sitton several years ago the Packers cut him loose before the regular season, so Ryan Pace has a history of addressing their offensive after notable players becoming available.

John McClain is reporting that the Texans have expressed interest in free agent G Larry Warford, who was just released by the Saints earlier in the day.

Warford should have no trouble finding a new opportunity with another team, seeing as he’s been a Pro Bowl selection each of the past three years.

The Texans have made a concerted effort to improve their offensive line and adding Warford would certainly bolster their 2019 unit.

Warford, 28, is a former third-round pick of the Lions back in 2013. He played out his rookie contract with Detroit before signing a four-year, $34 million deal that included $17 million guaranteed back in 2017.

Warford was owed a $7,650,000 base salary for the 2019 season and had already been paid a $750,000 signing bonus earlier this offseason when the Saints released him.

In 2019, Warford appeared in 15 games for the Saints, making 15 starts for them at right guard. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 8 guard out of 81 qualifying players.

We have him included in our Top 100 Available 2020 Free Agents list.
