Texans QB Competition “Wide Open”

Texans HC Bill O’Brien told reporters on Tuesday that their quarterback competition remains “wide open,” via Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle.

The Texans currently have Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tom Savage, Case Keenum, and T.J. Yates all competing for playing time at this point in offseason workouts.

Fitzpatrick obviously has the most experience and appears to be the favorite to start the year under center. Savage, a four-round pick, could push Fitzpatrick depending on how fast he’s able to grasp the team’s offensive system, and the same could be said for Case Keenum who took over for Matt Schaub last year.

There has been some recent buzz that Keenum and Yates could be on the trading block in the next few months with the Ravens coming up as a team to keep an eye on.

No matter who wins the job, it appears as though the expectations will be limited heading into 2014.
