Texans Sign NT Ryan Pickett, Place Rookie NT Louis Nix On I.R.

Update:

The Texans announced the signing of veteran NT Ryan Pickett and that they have placed Louis Nix III on season-ending injured reserve.

Mark Berman of Fox 26 in Houston is reporting that the Texans are signing veteran NT Ryan Pickett to a contract.

  • Berman adds that rookie NT Louis Nix will be placed on season-ending injured reserve to make room for Pickett.

The Texans brought Pickett in for a tryout this week.

Many assumed that Pickett could return to Green Bay after they lost B.J. Raji for the season, however the Packers did not shown interest in bringing him back.

Pickett, 34, was one of only a few free agent signing Packers GM Ted Thompson has made over the course of his tenure in Green Bay. Last year, Pickett appeared in all 16 games for Green Bay and totaled 21 tackles. Pro Football Focus had Pickett rated as the No. 53 defensive tackle in the league last season.

Nix somewhat surprisingly fell to the Texans in round three, despite the fact that some draft analysts believed he could come off the board at the beginning our round two. Houston placed him on the PUP list to begin the season with a wrist injury, so it appears as though they felt it was best to treat this year as a red-shirt season for Nix.
