Mark Berman reports that the Texans have signed veteran OT Matt Kalil to a contract on Friday.
- According to Berman, Kalil’s contract is a one-year deal worth up to $7.5 million. Kalil gets a $1.5 million base salary that can increase up to $3.25 million.
It’s worth mentioning that signing Kalil to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.
Kalil, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Vikings back in 2012. He played out his rookie contract with the Vikings before signing a five-year, $55.5 million contract that included $24 million guaranteed with the Panthers as a free agent in 2017.
Kalil was set to make a base salary of $7 million for the 2019 season when the Panthers recently released him.
In 2017, Kalil appeared in all 16 games for the Panthers and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 55 offensive tackle out of 80 qualifying players.
