Texans WR Cecil Shorts Agrees To $1M Pay Cut

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle has the contract details from WR Cecil Shorts‘ recently renegotiated deal.

  • According to Wilson, Shorts receives a $200,000 roster bonus today and has $800,000 available in active roster bonuses ($50,000 per game) available this year.
  • Shorts will carry a cap figure of $2.45 million for the 2016 season to go along with a base salary of $1.2 million, per Wilson. Shorts can earn up to $2.2 million in 2016.

Field Yates of ESPN reports that Texans WR Cecil Shorts has agreed to take a $1 million pay cut to remain with the team.

  • According to Yates, Shorts will have his base salary reduced from $2.7 million to $1.2 million, but receives a $500,000 roster bonus.

Shorts, 28, is a former is a former fourth-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2011. He played out his rookie contract in Jacksonville before signing on with the Texans as an unrestricted free agent last year.

Shorts was is in the final year of his two-year, $6 million contract that included $2.5 million guaranteed.

In 2015, Shorts appeared in 11 games and caught 42 passes for 484 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
