According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, there have been rumblings in NFL circles for months that the Cardinals would have interest in current Jets HC Todd Bowles if Bruce Arians decides to retire.
Costello says that all indications right now are that Bowles will be back with the Jets, but this is something to at least keep an eye on in the coming weeks, depending on what happens with Arians.
On Tuesday, a report surfaced that Arians and the Cardinals were prepared to part ways after the season. However, other reports later refuted this and Arians himself called it “fake news” during his press conference. This doesn’t mean Arians isn’t retiring, but no decision has been made regarding his future as of now.
Bowles, 54, worked under Arians as the Cardinals’ defensive coordinator before taking the Jets’ head coaching job a few years ago, so there are obvious ties between Bowles and Arizona.
Since taking over as the Jets’ head coach in 2015, Bowles has led them to a record of 20-27 (42.6 percent) and no playoff appearances.
We’ll have more regarding the Cardinals as the news is available.
