Dianna Russini of ESPN reports that while the Vikings, Cardinals and Jets are all puttingย together recruiting pitches along with video presentations for free agent QB Kirk Cousins, the plan as of now is for him to not take any visits at the start of free agency.
This comes in direct contrast to a report fromย Pro Football Talk, who previously mentioned that Cousinsย is expected to take “one or more visits” starting onย March 14 to meet with prospective teams. PFT added that Cousins is not expected to agree to terms with a team during the two-day negotiating period.
However, it sounds like this could be a shorter process than some anticipated. If Cousins was actually planning to meet with all of the interested teams in person, it could delay the quarterback market as a whole and take a week or so before a deal is in place.
The Vikings seem to be the consensus favorite to sign Cousins, but the Jets have plenty of cap space and the Broncos and Cardinals are expected to be in the mix for him as well.
Cousins, 29, is a former fourth-round pick of the Redskins back in 2012. He played out theย final year of his four-year, $2,572,688 rookie contract that included a $472,688 signing bonus whenย Washington elected to use the franchise tag on Cousins that paid him $19.953 millionย fully guaranteed for the 2016 season.
The Redskins franchised him for the second year in a row this last year and he made $23.94 million fully guaranteed for the 2017 season.
In 2017,ย Cousins has appeared in all 16 games and thrown for 4,093 yards while completing 64.3percent of his passes to go along with 27 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He’s also rushed for 179 yards and four touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 20 quarterback out of 40 qualifying players.
We have him featured in our Top 100 โ 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
