Washington Starting Dwayne Haskins In Week 15

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that Washington has ruled out QB Alex Smith with a calf injury for Week 15’s game against the Seahawks, which means Dwayne Haskins will draw the start.

Smith has been dealing with a calf injury and indications were that he was going to miss Sunday’s game.

Haskins previously came up as a trade candidate leading up to the deadline and it’s possible that Washington looks to move him next year, so this could be a big game for him.

Haskins, 23, was selected by Washington with the No. 14 overall pick after many believed he would end up being a top-10 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He’s in the second year of his four-year, $14,416,600 rookie contract that included an $8,504,800 signing bonus.

Haskins’ contract includes a fifth-year option for Washington to pick up in 2022.

In 2020, Haskins appeared in five games for Washington and completed 60.8 percent of his passes for 990 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions. He has also rushed for 18 yards and a touchdown.
