Wes Welker โ€œProbably Not Going Toโ€ Attend Patriots Minicamp

New England Patriots WR Wes Welker mentioned that heโ€™s โ€œprobably not going toโ€ attend the teamsโ€™ mandatory minicamp in June.

โ€œIโ€™m thinking Iโ€™m probably not going to, but things could change,โ€ Welker said, per Mike Reissโ€œItโ€™s really not a route I thought Iโ€™d ever take, because itโ€™s not me. I feel like itโ€™s just kind of been the spot Iโ€™ve been put in.โ€

Welker has already made the decision to sit out the Patriotsโ€™ voluntary workouts that have begun recently. Considering his age, it would make sense for Welker to try to use what leverage he has left to secure a long-term contract with the Patโ€™s. Thereโ€™s obviously no guarantee that Bill Belichick and company will appease Welker in such a scenario, but it would make sense from his stand point.

Heโ€™s previously said that he was willing to the 2012 season under the franchise tag, so thereโ€™s still a chance that he could return for minicamp even with a new contract.
