Anthony Barr Hoping To Sign Long-Term Extension With Vikings This Offseason

Vikings LB Anthony Barr said Tuesday that he’s hoping to sign a long-term extension that would keep him in Minnesota for the foreseeable future.

“Yeah, I love it here,’’ Barr tells Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press. “Absolutely. I really love my teammates. I really love this team. I love the city. I could see myself being here for the future.’’

Barr didn’t want to get into specifics regarding the type of contract he would be looking for in terms of a long-term commitment from the Vikings, but said he would like to be “secure.”

“I don’t really worry about that kind of stuff,’’ Barr said. “Money comes and goes, so I’ll be happy just to be secure.’’

Barr, 25, was taken with the No. 9 overall pick bu the Vikings back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year $12,743,500 rookie contract and made a base salary of $2,157,750 for the 2017 season.

The Vikings elected to pick up his Barr’s fifth-year option last May, which will pay him around $12.306 million for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Barr appeared in all 16 games for the Vikings and recorded 75 tackles, one sack, and six pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 44 linebacker out of 87 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding a new contract for Barr as the news is available.
