Arrest Warrant Issued For Aldon Smith After Skipping Court Date

According to TMZ Sports, former 49ers and Raiders OLB Aldon Smith missed his court date on Thursday and violating a protective order stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident that occurred a few weeks ago and a bench warrant has been issued for his arrest.

TMZ adds that Smith’s attorney is arguing that he has never missed a court date in the past and Smith told him that he planned to be present for the hearing.

Smith was arrested for a second time last week for allegedly violating a court order by contacting the victim in the earlier domestic violence incident that occurred back on March 3.

The prior domestic violence incident involving Smith led to him facing charges of willful infliction of corporal injury, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, false imprisonment and vandalism, which happen to all be misdemeanors.

Smith checked himself into rehab shortly after the incident with the help of his fiancee’s parents.

The Raiders announced his release from the reserve/retired list soon after.

Smith, 28, is a former first-round pick of the 49ers back in 2010. He was cut loose by the 49ers shortly after a DUI incident in 2015, even though San Francisco picked up his fifth-year option.

Smith later signed a one-year deal with the Raiders that was worth up to $8 million, which was largely incentive-based. Oakland elected to re-sign Smith to a two-year, $11.5 million contract in 2016.

The Raiders placed Smith on the reserve/suspended list a few years ago before cutting him loose a few weeks ago.

In 2015, Smith recorded 28 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, and three pass defenses over the course of nine games.
