Buccaneers View LeGarrette Blount As A “Complimentary Back?”

Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan referred to LeGarrette Blount as a “complimentary back.”

“He adds a dimension in terms of his running style, his size…as a complimentary back,” per Tom Krasniqi.

This is just the latest indication from the team that Doug Martin is entrenched as their starter and is in line for the bulk of the team’s carries this season. Given Blount’s size, it seems as though he would be an ideal candidate for goal-line situations, but last year he struggled to effectively pick up short-yardage. He has also had issues with ball security and receiving, so it will be interesting to see what their plan is for him this season. There have been some rumors that Blount could be on the trading block, but the topic hasn’t picked up much of any steam since then.
