Courtney Upshaw Losing Ground to Albert McClellan?

The Baltimore Sun reports that Ravens second round draft pick Courtney Upshaw is losing ground in the battle for starting outside linebacker job. The position was vacated by the injury to Terrell Suggs, who tore his Achilles back in April.

Coach John Harbaugh stated earlier that as the preseason progressed, second-year linebacker Albert McClellan seems to be catching up to Upshaw.

You’ve got to earn your stripes. You’ve got to earn your position, no matter what,” Harbaugh said. “I don’t know why a lot of people would think that. It’s pretty presumptuous. The best guys play.”

Upshaw arrived in camp overweight and out of shape. He missed the preseason opener and a week of training camp with a sprained shoulder. Many figured that the Ravens would need some solid production from Upshaw, now that they’ve lost Suggs, but if he can’t beat out McClellan at this point, there’s at least some cause for concern.
