La’el Collins Has Visit Scheduled With Cowboys, Dolphins Could Be A Finalist

Update:

Ross Dellenger of The Advocate reports that LSU OL La’el Collins has a visit scheduled with the Dallas Cowboys.

According to Dellenger’s sources, “almost every” NFL team has contacted Collins since the news surfaced that he is not the father of Brittney Mills child, who tragically passed away last week.

Jason La Canfora mentions that he would be surprised if the Dolphins don’t end up as a finalist for Collins.

The Bills, Buccaneers, Panthers and Giants have all come up as potential options for Collins, but it sounds like this list will only grow in the coming days.

Chargers GM Tom Telesco mentioned during an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio that they are continuing to do background work on LSU OL La’el Collins while staying in touch with his representatives.

We were working on this before the draft, we worked on it through the draft and we’ll continue to work through it right now even today,” Telesco said. “Compiling information, talking to a lot of different people, seeing where it goes and staying in contact with his representatives. We’ll just see how it plays out.

Jordan Raanan of NJ.com reports that the Giants are “in the mix” for the LSU OL La’el Collins.

There has already been a good deal of recruiting going on from the Bills, Dolphins, and Buccaneers, but Raanan mentions that the Giants also have ties to Collins, as WR Odell Beckham Jr. is a former teammate of Collins.

Raanan adds that Collins and Beckham Jr were part of the same recruiting class at LSU.

Chad Sabadie of WVUE-Fox 8 reports that the Dolphins are sending HC Joe Philbin along with former LSU teammates Jarvis Landry, Anthony Johnson and Kelvin Sheppard to meet with LSU OL La’el Collins.

However, Ian Rapoport reports that the players went on their own and no Dolphins employees will be present for the meeting.

Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports that Collins and his representatives are in the process of narrowing down the list of interested teams.

“This is a football decision and that is what we will focus on in helping La’el find the best team for him in the future,” said a source in the Collins camp.

According to Rand Getlin of Yahoo Sports, Buccaneers rookie QB Jameis Winston is “aggressively” recruiting LSU OL La’el Collins to sign with Tampa Bay.

Getlin mentions that Winston has reached out to Collins “multiple times” in the past 24 hours about the idea of joining him with the Buccaneers.

Earlier in the day, Getlin posted a list of the pre-draft visits Collins took with NFL. The list includes: the Panthers, Ravens, Bills, Eagles, Vikings, Colts, Buccaneers, Cardinals, Rams, Dolphins, and Lions. It’s worth mentioning that Collins worked out for the Chargers, Bengals, and Eagles while also having dinner with the Panthers and Saints.

Last night Collins met with Bills HC Rex Ryan in Baton Rouge, despite his agent not being involved in the meeting.

The Dolphins are reportedly expected to pursue Collins if he ends up being cleared of any involvement in the murder of his former girlfriend.

It’s worth mentioning that police have said on multiple occasions that Collins isn’t considered to be a suspect in the case. Collins even met with police on Monday regarding the situation.

We’ll have more regarding Collins and his next team as the news is available.
