Jim Caldwell Name To Watch For Buccaneers?

Jenna Laine of ESPN confirms a report from Albert Breer that there has been a push for the Buccaneers to hire Jim Caldwell as their head coach.

According to Breer, former Buccaneers HC Tony Dungy has advocated for Caldwell to be hired.

Caldwell wasn’t on the Buccaneers’ interview list and Laine says there’s “no timetable” for the team to decide on their next head coach.

The overwhelming expectation has been that the Buccaneers will hire Bruce Arians as head coach and reports have said that an announcement could come at some point this week.

The list of reported interviews for the Buccaneers includes:

  1. Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy (Interviewed)
  2. Vikings DC George Edwards (Interviewed)
  3. Former Cardinals HC Bruce Arians (Interviewed)
  4. Cowboys passing game coordinator/DBs coach Kris Richard (Interviewed)

Cardwell has interviewed with the Jets, Packers, Browns and Cardinals.

Caldwell, 63, began his head coaching career with the Colts back in 2009 after taking over for Tony Dungy. He spent three years in charge of Indianapolis before he was fired after the 2011 season.

After a stint with the Ravens as their offensive coordinator, the Lions hired him as their head coach in 2015. Detroit made the decision to move on from Caldwell this past January.

During his seven years as a head coach for the Colts and Lions, Caldwell led them to a record of 62-50 (55.4 percent) which includes four playoff appearances and one trip to the AFC Championship game.
