Justin Forsett’s Contract Prevents Him From Signing Extension With Ravens Until Next Year

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports points out that Ravens RB Justin Forsett is unable to sign a contract extension with the Ravens during the season.

Forsett wound up signing a one-year deal worth $730,000 with the Ravens during the offseason. However, a minimum-salary benefit contract precludes the player and team from altering the agreement until the start of free agency next year.

This means Forsett is almost certain to reach the open market in 2015, unless Baltimore is willing to use their franchise tag on him, which seems highly unlikely.

All indications are that Forsett wants to be back in Baltimore and the Ravens would like to retain him for the foreseeable future, but they will have to get a deal done next March.

Forsett, 29, has ran for 903 yards on 155 carries (5.8 YPC) to go along with 33 receptions for 210 yards and seven rushing touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 4 running back in the league.
