NFL Notes: 2016 Free Agents, Browns, Colts, Falcons, & Jets

2016 Free Agents

ESPN analyst Joe Banner mentioned that NFL teams will have a record amount of salary cap space next year, which has led to some teams getting great deals by locking up players now.

“Supply and demand is the most out of line in favor of the players it has been in the 20-plus years that I’ve been around the league,” Banner recently texted, via ESPN.com. “I’m not sure many realize the gold mine ahead if they are smart.

Browns

  • Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that Browns QB Josh McCown (concussion) is expected to practice Friday.
  • Fowler adds that if things go well for McCown this week, he’ll likely get the starting job back.

Colts

  • Rand Getlin reports that Colts WR T.Y. Hilton is day-to-day with a knee injury, and will probably be a game-time decision on Monday.

Falcons

Jets

Jets QB Geno Smith tells Kimberley A. Martin of Newsday that he’s undergoing an X-ray in the next week or so, which will ultimately determine when he can return to the team.

However, Smith said he’s “extremely [angry]” about the situation that led to his jaw being broken by then-teammate IK Enemkpali.

“I’m extremely [angry],” Smith said. “But I have to keep my temper down. I can’t exhibit that in the locker room, I can’t exhibit that on a daily basis. I just feel for my family more because they enjoy seeing me out there.”
