NFL Notes: Broncos, Colts, Raiders, & Vikings

Broncos

Broncos HC Gary Kubiak has been limiting QB Peyton Manning‘s reps in offseason workouts in order to keep him “fresh and healthy” for the start of training camp.

I mean, obviously, he would go every day and even longer than we’d ask him to. It’s just the way he’s built,” Kubiak said, via USA Today. “But I think it’s been good, because you spend a lot of quality time with the other guys.

“It’s just important for these young guys to get better. (Manning) understands that. He needs some help on this team. He needs some young guys to step up and help him be successful. He understands the cause, so asking him to do that is hopefully helping the cause.

Colts

  • According to Colts owner Jim Irsay, LT Anthony Castonzo is also a priority for the Colts moving forward. (Kevin Bowen)
  • Irsay also mentioned that he doesn’t expect OLB Robert Mathis (Achilles’) to be ready for the start of training camp.

Raiders

Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune writes that RB Latavius Murray is making a “strong showing” and should enter training camp as the guy to beat for the starting running back job.

“Right now Latavius has been running with the lead group, but he knows he’s got to earn that through camp, through the preseason,” Del Rio said. “We’ve added a couple of guys in Trent and Roy and we’ll give them an opportunity as well as with the guys that are here. We’ll sort out our different roles as we get into camp, but we like where we’re headed.”

Vikings

Vikings HC Mike Zimmer doesn’t expect RB Adrian Peterson to see game actions during the preseason.

“I probably don’t see that, no,’’ Zimmer said, via Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press. “We’re talking in June, so you can’t hold me to it, but he’s carried the ball a lot (in his eight-year career) and he’s going to continue to carry the ball a lot. He’ll get plenty of looks and reps in practice.
