NFL Notes: Broncos, Giants, Ravens

Broncos

The Broncos added some size to their defensive line this offseason by bringing in Domata Peko and Zach Kerr with the goal of improving their run defense.

Broncos HC Vance Joseph explained that Peko is a clear a nose tackle for them while they could move Kerr around a bit due to his rushing ability.

Domata is a nose tackle, definitely. You’ve seen Domata, right? … It makes a difference,’’ Joseph said, via Jeff Legwold of ESPN. “Kerr’s played some nose. That’s the beauty of having Kerr. … He’s a big body that can hold a point at nose, but he’s a quick athlete inside that can rush the passer. He’s a beauty to have inside. He can play nose [or at either defensive end]. Even on sub-downs, he can rush inside for us. It’s great having a guy like that.’’

Giants

  • James Kratch of NJ.com mentions that the Giants had Bobby Hart lined up as the right tackle with the first-team unit last week with D.J. Fluker worked as a right guard with the second string.
  • Kratch admits that things could change in the coming months, but he gets the impression that the Giants would like Hart to win the job.
  • As for sixth-round pick Adam Bisnowaty, Kratch’s read is that he could end up being a right tackle or inactive for most weeks.
  • In regards to the Giants new safety Duke Ihenacho, Kratch writes that he’ll likely have to compete with Nat Berhe, Eric Pinkins and some undrafted free agents for two roster spots.
  • Kratch can’t see the Giants moving on from DE Owa Odighizuwa after just two years and believes he would be claimed off of waivers if they were to cut him. Instead, Kratch expects New York to give him at least one more year to live up to his draft status.
  • Kratch considers cornerback depth to be the biggest defense concern for the Giants.
  • The Giants are likely to carry six receivers this year, according to Kratch, including Odell Beckham, Brandon Marshall, Sterling Shepard, and Dwayne Harris. As of now, Kratch says that Tavarres King has an early leg up for the fifth spot with Darius Powe and Roger Lewis being two players to watch for the sixth spot.

Ravens

  • Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun writes that the Ravens may actually turn to a few players to replace Kyle Juszczyk in their offense this season.
  • Zrebiec mentions that the Ravens viewed Juszczyk as more than just a traditional fullback, given that he was used as more of a tight end or receiver at times during his stint in Baltimore.
  • According to Zrebiec, the Ravens were interested in re-signing Juszczyk before he agreed toa four-year, $21 million contract with the 49ers this past March.
  • The Ravens could turn to Lorenzo Taliaferro or Ricky Ortiz as their traditional lead blocker but Zrebiec says that some around the team believe Taliaferro could fill the fullback spot and still operate as the team’s No. 3 running back.
