NFL Notes: Captain Munnerlyn, Draft, Falcons, Jaguars, Texans

Captain Munnerlyn

Vikings impending free agent CB Captain Munnerlyn said he wants to sign with a Super Bowl contender this offseason and expects a “decent market” as a free agent.

I’ve got to put myself in the position to try to get that Super Bowl trophy,” Munnerlyn said, via SiriusXM NFL Radio. “I’m an older guy. I’m going on year nine, so I definitely want to win. So I’m definitely going to look at the roster, the coaches, to see where I can take my talent and plug it in and try to help those guys get to the playoffs and make that Super Bowl run.”

Munnerlyn explained that he expects to have a decent amount of interest on the open market due to his skills as a nickel corner.

I’m very excited just to see where that goes,” said Munnerlyn. “I know (the Vikings) know that the nickel position in that defense is very, very valuable in the NFL now. Teams are playing 80 percent nickel, so you’ve definitely got to have a great nickel back so I definitely expect to have a decent market for myself.”

Munnerlyn would, however, still like to re-sign with Minnesota.

I’m excited about that, but at the same time, I do want to go back to Minnesota,” said Munnerlyn. “As a defense, I feel like we’re on the upcoming. We’ve got some very young talent, some great players, and  we’ve got a great head coach.”

Draft

  • Jon Gruden praised Pittsburgh QB Nate Peterman, saying: “He’s one of the most improved QBs in the country this year.” (Ryan O’Halloran)
  • Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst grades North Carolina S Josh Jones as a third-round prospect and is expected to run his forty-yard dash in the low 4.4’s. Scouts also believe Jones can play as a free safety, conventional strong safety, and play inside or outside.
  • Pauline views Shepherd WR Billy Brown as a fifth-round prospect and as a tight end at the NFL level. Pauline says that “most teams” have Brown as a tight end on their draft boards and “hopes” to run his forty-yard dash in the 4.5’s.
  • Although Brown will participate in the NFL combine as a receiver, he is open to performing tight end drills if asked.
  • Pauline is told that Ohio State LB Raekwon McMillan is expected to run his forty in under 4.70 seconds.

Falcons

  • Vaughn McClure reports that Falcons athletic performance manager A.J. Neibel is leaving the team. There is no word regarding his possible replacement at this point in time.

Jaguars

  • According to Adam Caplan, Jaguars OT Josh Wells two-year extension is worth $1.52 million including $75,000 fully guaranteed.

Texans

  • Texans impending free agent CB A.J. Bouye is not expecting to be franchise tagged by Houston, as they have other players to address: “It’s a business. I understand they have to take care of other people.” (Aaron Wilson)
