NFL Notes: Lions, Packers, Raiders

Lions

Lions GM Bob Quinn made it clear last week that they’re “absolutely” interested in potential trades that could boost the number of draft picks they have this year, considering that they currently have just six selections to work with.

“That’s something that’ll definitely be in the talks I’d say, a week or two leading up to the draft — try to get more picks,” Quinn said at the owner’s meeting, via MLive.com. “But it’s easier said than done. Sometime those things really can’t happen until draft day or draft weekend. But we’ll have conversations leading up to it. The more the better.

Packers

Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said recently that he expects RT Bryan Bulaga to return from his ACL injury “sooner rather than later.”

“Whenever players are injured it’s tough as personnel guys who are not 100 percent sure of when they’re coming back,” Gutekunst said, via PackersNews.com. “But I know that he’s been working exceptionally hard. We’ve got a lot of faith that he’s going to come back sooner rather than later, and obviously when Bryan is in there, Bryan is a good player. We’re hoping everything goes well through the rehab process and we get him back as soon as we can.”

Packers HC Mike McCarthy also mentioned that he’s hoping to have Bulaga back for the 2018 season and everything he’s heard up to this point has been positive.

“I would hope so,” McCarthy said. “All feedback I’ve been given is (positive). He’s in Florida training, he’s going through his rehab program. But just talking to Dr. (Patrick) McKenzie … he feels that Bryan is right on course.

McCarthy added that they’re open to re-signing free agent G Jahri Evans.

Jahri is definitely part of the conversation,” McCarthy said. “I don’t know exactly where he is as far as what his goals are, but we’re open (to him returning).

Raiders

  • Regarding the Raiders’ decision to release P Marquette King, Scott Bair of NBC Sports writes that they “clearly have someone in mind” and would not have parted ways with King without having options.
  • Bair lists Texas’ Michael Dickson, Alabama’s J.K. Scott, Bowling Green’s Joseph Davidson, and Florida’s Johnny Townsend as four prospects who could make sense for Oakland in this year’s draft.
  • According to Bair, Dickson is regarded as a fourth-round pick, which could be too high for the Raiders.
  • As for free agent options, Bair points out that former Giants P Brad Wing is the only punter currently available who had a starting job last year.
