Tom Pelissero reports that the Panthers are signing LT Matt Kalil to a five-year, $55.5 million contract that includes $25 million guaranteed.
Carolina has obvious question marks at left tackle, given that Michael Oher missed most of the season after he was placed in the concussion protocol and is unfortunately still dealing with issues relating to this injury.
It’s worth mentioning that Kalil’s brother, Ryan, is the Panthers center, so there’s an obvious connection between the two.
Kalil, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Vikings back in 2012. He played out his rookie contract but the Vikings elected to pick up his fifth-year option, which came with a base salary of $11.09 million for the 2016 season.
Kalil is in line to be an unrestricted free agent in the coming days.
In 2016, Kalil was limited to appearing in just two games for the Vikings after he was placed on injured reserve with a hip injury.
We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
