Update: Vikings GM Denies That They’ve Spoken To The Rams About Sam Bradford

Vikings GM Rick Spielman told reporters on Tuesday that they have spoken to the Rams regarding a potential trade for QB Sam Bradford.

The idea came up on Monday after Jason La Canfora mentioned during an interview that there are people within the NFL who believe the Rams and Vikings have discussed a trade for Bradford. 

• Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network latter refuted the idea saying that the Rams had not discussed trading Bradford with any team.
• Meanwhile, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that the Rams remain committed to Bradford being the starting quarterback.
• Florio adds that the Rams “intend to draft a quarterback at some point this year.“

It appears as though we can put this idea to rest. At least until after the draft, depending on whether or not they elect to draft a quarterback in round one.

Jason La Canfora mentioned during an interview with CBS Sports 920’s The Morning After show that there are people within the NFL who believe the Rams and Vikings have discussed a trade for QB Sam Bradford. 

“There are people in the league who believe there have been discussions with the Vikings,” La Canfora said, via The Turf Show Times. “Rams people have denied any conversations whatsoever. The bottom line is if they don’t take a quarterback, they’re not trading Sam Bradford. There’s so much uncertainty in this draft that it’d be difficult to put the horse before the cart … all these things are tied together.

La Canfora adds that the Rams are still expected to talk to a number of teams in the coming days.

Norv Turner reportedly “really loved” Bradford coming out of Oklahoma, according to La Canfora.

It’s worth mentioning that La Canfora still expects Bradford to remain with St. Louis, but wouldn’t complete rule out the possibility of him being traded at some point.

La Canfora has brought up the idea of the Rams trading Bradford a few months now. He previously mentioned that the Jaguars, Browns, Vikings, Texans and the Bills could all make sense for Bradford, but it really seems like it would be very difficult to move his contract.

Bradford, 26, still has two years remaining on his contract with base salaries of $14.015 million and $12.985 million coming his way during this time. As things stand right now, he has a $17.6 million cap figure next season, which means he represents an easy source of cap space if the Rams were to get him signed to an extension.

Last year, Bradford appeared in seven games for St. Louis before going down with a torn ACL. He completed 60.7 percent of his passes for 1,687 yards, 14 touchdowns and four interceptions.
