Report: Chip Kelly Likely Returning To Oregon

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports sources have confirmed that Chip Kelly has turned down a chance to take a head coaching position in the NFL and will remain in Oregon.

Schefter adds that Kelly was considering the Eagles’ offer.

Jason La Canfora updates the situation regarding Chip Kelly by tweeting that his sources have informed him that he is “in fact staying at Oregon.

La Canfora adds that nothing’s official just yet, but this coincides with what we’ve been hearing the entire day.

Nike co-founder Phil Knight reportedly offered Kelly more money to stay and his heart is apparently not into leaving Oregon just yet. This would be second year in a row that he flirted with an NFL team only to back track after a few days of serious interest.

Mary Kay Cabot tweets that Chip Kelly’s heart wasn’t “100 percent into leaving Oregon.”

The Browns have moved on in their search for a new head coach.

Jason La Canfora tweets that continues to “hear” that Kelly is staying at Oregon.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting that a general consensus from around the league believes that in choosing between Oregon and the Eagles, Chip Kelly is leaning towards returning to Oregon.

Mortensen adds that a decision is soon to come.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Browns restarting their head coaching search now that Chip Kelly is deciding between the Eagles and possibly returning to Oregon next season.

This has to be terribly disappointing for the Browns given that their top-two options are no longer in play for them. There are still good coaching options available, so hopefully they’re able to find someone that’s committed to building a winning organization in Cleveland.

Peter King adds that the Eagles seem to telling Chip Kelly that “we like you, but we’ll be fine without you.” King also mentions that Kelly could end up getting “cold feet” due to “not seeing an ideal job” and return to Oregon.

Jason Cole reports that Browns are leaving Arizona without an answer from Chip Kelly regarding their head coaching vacancy.

Jeff McLane tweets that we shouldn’t “rule out Chip Kelly staying at Oregon.” McLane adds that; “In fact, I’d say, after sniffing around more, there’s just as much a chance he stays than goes.”

The Eagles have been reportedly trying to sell Kelly on their personnel and the fact that Michael Vick’s contract could be restructured to remain with the team. (NFLTR)

Mary Kay Cabot reported late last night that Oregon coach Chip Kelly was still meeting with Eagles’ executives.

Brian Startare of WIP Philadelphia reported that Kelly was close to reaching an agreement on a five-year deal with the Eagles.

“If I’m right I’m golden,” tweeted Startare. “If wrong my source is fired.

Kelly was supposed to meet with the Browns executives last night, but that ultimately didn’t happen as his meeting with the Eagles went much longer than expected.
