Report: Panthers & 49ers Among Teams With Interest In WR Josh Morgan

According to Chris Russell of ESPN980, the Panthers and 49ers are the “leaders” among six NFL teams with interest in free agent WR Josh Morgan.

Morgan, 28, signed a five-year contract worth $12 million and included $7.5 million guaranteed with the Redskins back in 2012, but never lived up to his contract.

Last year, he appeared in 14 games and caught 20 passes for 214 yards receiving and no touchdowns. He did, however, contribute on special teams and totaled 239 kick return yards.

The Panthers and 49ers are both looking for value at receiver, so it would make sense for one of them to make an effort to get Morgan under contract now that the free agent market is limited in terms of available talent.

  1. he is familiar with the 49ers he was a reliable receiver for the 49ers in 2011 before being hurt other than that that’s what the 49ers need resurrect his career and give the 49ers a receiver that can be a reliable receiver

    • The best we could get from Morgan would be a viable #3 and an excellent kick returner. Asking for that is asking for a lot. I doubt he could beat out Patton or a Rookie for our #3 and #4 WR spots. That being the case do the 49ers have room on their roster for a #5 Receiver? Probably not.

    • Patton is a better “reliable receiver” than Morgan – and most likely the same type of receiver. Morgan would be a waste of time and money
