Schefter: โ€œI Would Not Be Surprised If We See An Odell Beckham Trade On Or Before Draftโ€

ESPNโ€™s Adam Schefter mentioned during an appearance on โ€œGolic and Wingoโ€ that he wouldnโ€™t be surprised if the Giants traded WR Odell Beckham Jr before this yearโ€™s draft.

โ€œI would not be surprised if we see an Odell Beckham trade on or before the NFL draft,โ€ Schefter said.

Giants owner John Mara and HC Pat Shurmur have both made recent comments that have left to door open to a potential Beckham trade. At the very least, itโ€™s clear that the Giants will listen to potential offers for Beckham.

There has been a lot of recent buzz about the Rams being a team to watch:

  • On Monday, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reported that the Rams had contacted the Giants about Beckham.
  • Charles Robinson spoke to a team source Tuesday morning who sais of the Ramsโ€™ interest in Beckham: โ€œItโ€™s not nothing. But itโ€™s a whole lot closer to being nothing than it is to being something.โ€
  • According to Mike Jones of USA Today, the Rams are expected to make a โ€œstrong attemptโ€ to trade for Beckham Jr.

Rapoport reported yesterday that Beckham Jr. will not suit up for the Giants or any other team this year without a new long-term deal in place.

โ€œOdell Beckham is not going to set foot on the field without a new contract agreed to, whether the Giants or whether anyone else,โ€ Rapoport said.

On Sunday, Mara told reporters that no player is โ€œuntouchableโ€ in a trade for them after a disappointing season.

โ€œI canโ€™t answer that one way or the other,โ€ Mara said when asked if he could see a scenario in which Beckham isnโ€™t with the Giants in 2018. โ€œI mean weโ€™re certainly not shopping him, if thatโ€™s what youโ€™re asking (laughs). But when youโ€™re coming off a season where youโ€™re 3-13 and played as poorly as we played, I wouldnโ€™t say anyoneโ€™s untouchable.โ€

Mara did, however, add that trading Beckham is โ€œnot a scenario I would like to see happen.โ€

Mike Garafolo previously reported that Beckham has told some people that heโ€™s seeking as much as $20 million per year as part of a long-term commitment.

Beckham, 25, was taken with the No. 12 overall pick by the Giants back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $10,406,198 contract but the Giants picked up his fifth-year option last year.

Beckham stands to make a base salary of $8,459,000 for the 2018 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Beckham would free up $8,459,000 of available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2017, Beckham Jrโ€™s season was cut short when he suffered a season-ending injury. He caught 25 passes for 302 yards receiving and three touchdowns over the course of four games.

Weโ€™ll have more regarding a new deal for Beckham as the news is available.
