Steelers Signing K Chris Boswell To Four-Year Extension Worth Close To $20M

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Steelers and K Chris Boswell have agreed to a four-year extension worth just under $20 million.

Boswell told reporters a few weeks ago that his agent and the team had opened contract negotiations and it looks like they were able to strike a deal before the start of the season.

The Steelers have a team policy to not negotiate deals once the season starts.

Boswell, 27, originally signed on with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Rice back in 2014. He was among Houston’s final roster cuts coming out of the preseason and signed on to their practice squad.

The Texans wound up cutting him after a week and he eventually signed a futures contract with the Giants. He was, again, among the team’s final roster cuts but was signed and waived again shortly after.

The Steelers signed him to a two-year deal in 2015 and he brought him back on a futures contract the following year. Pittsburgh placed the second-round restricted tender on Boswell this offseason, which will cost them $2.914 million for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Boswell appeared in all 16 games for the Steelers and recorded 35 field goals in 38 attempts (92.1 percent) and converted 37 of 39 extra point attempts (94.9 percent) to go along with 46 touchbacks.
