The 49ers announced Tuesday they’ve activated S Jimmie Ward from the PUP list.
Ward is coming off a broken collarbone suffered during OTA’s. He’s expected to start at free safety for San Francisco.
Ward, 27, was taken with the No. 30 overall pick back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $7.112 million contract when the 49ers picked up Ward’s fifth-year option for the 2018 season.
Ward closed out the year on the injured reserve after sustaining a broken forearm. He returned to the 49ers on a one-year contract worth $5 million this past March.
In 2018, Ward appeared in nine games and recorded 24 tackles, no interceptions, and a forced fumble recovery.
