According to Pro Football Talk, the 49ers are nearing a long-term deal DL Arik Armstead.
The window to place the franchise tag on Armstead has apparently passed without an announcement, meaning Armstead is free to negotiate with other teams if he doesn’t agree to a new contract with the 49ers.
San Francisco was reportedly making “significant headway” on a long-term deal for Armstead this week and has made keeping him their top priority this offseason.
Armstead, 26, is a former first-round pick out of Oregon by the 49ers in the 2015 NFL Draft. He was in the final year of his four-year, $9.84 rookie contract when the 49ers elected to pick up Armstead’s fifth-year option for the 2019 season.
Armstead was in line to be an unrestricted free agent in 2020 for the first time in his NFL career.
In 2019, Armstead appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers and recorded 54 tackles, 10 sacks, two forced fumbles, a recovery and two passes defended.
We have him included in our Top 100 – 2020 Free Agents list.
