A 49ers’ source “strongly indicated” to Jason Cole of B/R that GM Trent Baalke’s job is safe, despite the team’s poor performance the past few years.
In fact, Cole says that 49ers’ management believes Baalke is still the right guy to continue building the team’s roster moving forward.
Some have called for the 49ers to move on from Baalke after the team’s performance has dropped off the table since they moved on HC Jim Harbaugh after the 2014 season. However, it looks like San Francisco plans to give him more time to continue shaping the team’s roster to fit HC Chip Kelly’s plans moving forward.
Baalke, 52, was promoted by the 49ers to general manager back in 2011. He was named Executive of the Year by the Pro Football Writers Association back in 2011 after the team won 13 games.
Since taking the job back in 2011, the 49ers have a record of 50-35-1, which includes three playoff appearances and a conference title in 2012.
We’ll have more regarding Baalke’s future with the team as the news is available.
