The San Francisco 49ers announced Tuesday that they have placed CB Ahkello Witherspoon on injuredย reserve and signed DB Tyvis Powell to a one-year deal.
49ers HC Kyle Shanahan announced Monday that Witherspoon was out for the season with a PCL sprain, so this move was expected.
Witherspoon, 23, is a former third-round pick of the 49ers back in 2017. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $3.88 million contract that included a $973,572 signing bonus and stands to make base salaries of $815,375 and $992,393 over the final two years of the agreement.
In 2018, Witherspoon appeared in 14 games for the 49ers and recorded 37 tackles, no interceptions and four pass defenses.
