The San Francisco 49ers have promoted RB Jeff Wilson to their active roster and waived TE Kaden Smith on Saturday, according to Field Yates.
The 49ers needed another running back with Tevin Coleman out due to an ankle injury. Wilson joins Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert in the backfield for San Francisco.
Wilson, 23, wound up going undrafted out of North Texas back in 2018. He later signed a three-year, $1.71 million contract with the 49ers, but was waived coming out of the preseason.
Wilson was on and off of the 49ers’ practice squad last year, but was once again among the team’s final roster cuts a few weeks ago. San Franciso re-signed Wilson to their practice squad soon after.
In 2018, Wilson appeared in six games for the 49ers and rushed for 266 yards on 66 carries (4 YPC) to go along with 12 receptions for 98 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
