According to Field Yates, the 49ers have reworked G Laken Tomlinson‘s deal to add $1.34 million in cap space this year.
Yates says San Francisco converted a portion of Tomlinson’s $3.5 million base salary into a signing bonus and added voidable years.
Tomlinson, 28, is a former first-round pick out of Duke by the Lions in the 2015 NFL Draft. The 49ers acquired him from the Lions in exchange for a 2019 fifth-round pick in 2017.
He was entering the final year of his four-year, $8.55 million rookie contract that included $6.949 million guaranteed and was set to make a base salary of $1,600,944 for 2018 when he signed a three-year $18 million extension with San Francisco.
Tomlinson was set to make base salaries of $3.5 million and $4.5 million in the final two years of his deal.
In 2020, Tomlinson has appeared in six games for the 49ers and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 12 guard out of 75 qualifying players.
