The San Francisco 49ers officially signed OT Leonard Wester to a futures contract for the 2020 season on Monday.
Here’s the updated list of futures signings for the 49ers:
- DE Jonathan Kongbo
- DB Derrick Kindred
- DB Chris Edwards
- OT Leonard Wester
Futures deals are essentially camp invites that will give players the opportunity to compete for roster spots during offseason workouts and training camp.
Wester, 27, wound up signing on with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri Western State back in 2016. He managed to make the 53-man roster as a rookie and played out the final year of his three-year contract in Tampa Bay.
The Buccaneers declined to tender Wester an offer as a restricted free agent this offseason and he eventually signed on with the Jaguars in April. However, Jacksonville placed him on injured reserve coming out of the preseason and later waived him with an injury settlement.
In 2018, Wester appeared in all 16 games for the Buccaneers and played 118 total snaps.
