On Monday, the San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of three players to contracts for the 2020 season including C Jake Brendel, DL Alex Barrett, and OT Jaryd Jones-Smith.
Brendel, 27, wound up signing on with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of UCLA back in 2016. He was waived coming out of the preseason and later signed to Dallas’ practice squad.
Brendel caught on with the Dolphins and spent a few years in Miami before the Broncos signed him to a one-year deal last year. After being waived by Denver, Brendel later joined the Ravens midseason.
In 2018, Brendel was active for four games and played a total of 176 snaps.
Barrett, 25, went undrafted out of San Diego State back in 2017, before signing with the Detroit Lions. He spent just over a year in Detroit on and off of their practice squad before being waived during the 2018 season.
Barrett later had a brief stint with the Raiders and eventually signed on with the 49ers last November.
In 2017, Barrett made his most recent appearance with the Lions, recording one tackle over the course of two games.
Jones-Smith, 25, went undrafted out of Pittsburgh in 2018, before signing with the Houston Texans. The Dolphins later signed him to a two-year $1.1 million contract in April 2019, but he was later waived and joined the 49ers practice squad in October.
During his college career at Pitt, Jones-Smith appeared in 32 games over the course of three seasons.
