According to Tom Pelissero, the 49ers signed WR Chris Thompson to their training camp roster and waived WR Max McCaffrey to make room for him.
The 49ers also have signed DT Jay Bromley and placed DL Kapron Lewis-Moore on injured reserve due to a groin injury, per Nick Wagoner.
Thompson, 25, wound up signing on with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Florida back in 2017. He was waived coming out of the preseason before later signing on to the Texans’ practice squad and eventually being promoted to their active roster.
After Houston waived him, Thompson signed on with the Orlando Apollos of the now-defunct AAF. He worked out for the Ravens back in April but left Baltimore without a contract.
In 2017, Thompson appeared in 13 games for the Texans and caught five passes for 84 yards receiving and no touchdowns. He also totaled 369 kick return yards and 39 punt return yards.
Bromley, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Giants back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $3,003,876 rookie contract and signed on with the Saints in May of last year.
The Saints elected to release Bromley coming out of the preseason as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players. He’s been on and off of their roster ever since.
In 2018, Bromley appeared in two games for the Saints and recorded four tackles, one tackle for loss, and no sacks.
