49ers Use Low-Round Tender On RFA LB Michael Wilhoite

Tom Pelissero of USA Today reports that the 49ersย tendered restricted free agent LB Michael Wilhoite at the low-round level.

The low-round tender will cost the 49ers $1,671,000 for the 2016 seasonย and give them theย right of first refusal on any contract offer theyย receive. However, if they elect to not match an offer sheet, they would not receive anyย compensation forย him.

Wilhoite, 29,ย wound up signing on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of back in 2011. He was on and off of their practice squad for the first few years, but has been playing under exclusive rights tenders each of the past two seasons.

In 2015, Wilhoiteย appeared in 12ย games for the 49ers and recorded 85ย tackles, one interceptionย and aย pass defense.ย Pro Football Focusย has him rated as the No. 97ย inside linebacker out of 97ย qualifying players.
