Ahmed was competing for a backup role at running back with fellow UDFA JaMycal Hasty but the health of 49ers RB Jerick McKinnon likely helped edge him out.
Ahmed, 21, was a one-year starter at Washington and an honorable mention All-Pac 12 selection in 2019. He signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in May before being released during camp.
During his three-year college career at Washington, Ahmed rushed for 2,016 yards on 353 carries (5.7 YPC) to go along with 50 receptions for 331 yards receiving and 21 total touchdowns over the course of 39 games. He also totaled 500 kick return yards.
