49ers Working Out QBs Tom Savage, Kellen Clemens & T.J. Yates

Jordan Schultz reports that the 49ers are bringing free agent QB Tom Savage for a workout following the news that Jimmy Garoppolo is out for the season with a torn ACL.

  • 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan confirmed that they’re trying out Savage and added that Kellen Clemens and T.J. Yates will also work out for them.
  • The 49ers contacted Matt Moore, but it’s unclear whether he’ll take part in the session.
  • San Francisco will also promote QB Nick Mullens to their active roster.

The 49ers plan to move forward with C.J. Beathard as their starting quarterback, but it looks like they plan to at least evaluate some of their available options at the position.

Savage, 28, is a former fourth-round pick of the Texans back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2.52 million contract and made a base salary of $690,000 for the 2017 season.

The Saints signed Savage to a one-year, $1.5 million deal back in March, but was released coming out of the preseason.

In 2017, Savage appeared in eight games and completed 56.1 percent of his passes for 1412 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions. The Texans placed him on injured reserve after he suffered a scary concussion.
